Washington, D.C. (July 9, 2015)—The National Council of Farmer Cooperatives today praised action by the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans in approving H.R. 2898, the Western Water and American Food Security Act of 2015. Introduced by Congressman David Valadao (R-Calif.), the bill seeks to provide some measure of relief to agricultural producers and rural communities dealing with the devastating consequences of California’s exceptional drought.
“Water is the lifeblood of California’s Central Valley and Congress mus act to ensure the state’s residents and farmers have the water they need to survive and continue to grow food for our nation and the world,” said NCFC President and CEO Chuck Conner. “Congressman Valadao has worked tirelessly in leading the effort here in Washington to mitigate some of the impacts of the drought. The subcommittee’s action on H.R. 2898 today is a result of those efforts and NCFC urges the full Natural Resources Committee to take up the bill without delay.”
