Statement of NCFC President Chuck Conner on the Nomination of Governor Sonny Perdue for Secretary of Agriculture

Washington, D.C. (January 19, 2017)—“On behalf of America’s farmer-owned co-ops, I would like to express our strong support of Governor Sonny Perdue’s nomination to be the next Secretary of Agriculture. Having grown up on a farm and having worked as a veterinarian for many years, Governor Perdue has the understanding of agriculture and rural America critical to success in his new role. He also brings skills from his days as governor that will help in the management of a department as diverse as the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

“We look forward to working with Governor Perdue on a number of issues critical to farmer co-ops and their members in the coming years. These range from implementation of the biotech disclosure act to bolstering infrastructure in rural America to ensuring that farm programs provide a safety net for producers across the country and across commodity.

“Again, I would like to congratulate Governor Perdue and pledge our support of him in the confirmation process.”
