Statement of NCFC President and CEO Chuck Conner on Introduction of the Growing Climate Solutions Act

Press Releases

Washington (April 20, 2021)–“The Growing Climate Solutions Act is a critical step to breaking down barriers and providing certainty to farmer co-op members and other producers who want to participate in carbon markets. I would like to thank Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) for their leadership in reintroducing the bill today with broad bipartisan support. If farmers are to be part of solving climate challenges they need to rely on proven science, accurate data and standardization to help us get there—this bill is an important step in that direction.

“I would especially like to recognize the work done by Agriculture Committee Ranking Member John Boozman (R-Ark.) who in collaboration with Sens. Stabenow and Braun added provisions to the bill providing greater farmer representation on the U.S. Department of Agriculture advisory panel on carbon markets that the legislation would establish.

“We look forward to the Senate Agriculture Committee taking up the bill soon and urge that it be considered, and approved, by the full Senate without delay.”

About NCFC

Since 1929, NCFC has been the voice of America’s farmer cooperatives.  Our members are regional and national farmer cooperatives, which are in turn composed of nearly 2,000 local farmer cooperatives across the country.  NCFC members also include 26 state and regional councils of cooperatives.  Farmer cooperatives allow individual farmers the ability to own and lead organizations that are essential for continued competitiveness in both the domestic and international markets.

America’s farmer-owned cooperatives provide a comprehensive array of services for their members.  These diverse organizations handle, process and market virtually every type of agricultural commodity.  They also provide farmers with access to infrastructure necessary to manufacture, distribute and sell a variety of farm inputs.  Additionally, they provide credit and related financial services, including export financing.
