(June 30, 2020)—“The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) coming into effect tomorrow on July 1 is a victory for American farmers and ranchers at a time when they badly need one. The agreement provides new opportunities for agricultural exports, enhances standards for biotechnology, reduces trade distorting policies, and modernizes sanitary and phytosanitary standards using a science-based approach. By reaffirming our relationship with our two closest trading partners, the USMCA will also help grow rural economies and provided jobs for many Americans beyond the farm gate. With the USMCA in place, I trust that farmers and their co-ops will move quickly to capitalize on the agreement’s potential.”
